I have older Bose speakers that were specifically for a room like deepers, it has side firing speakers to bounce off those walls.
I had walls on both sides before it opened up a bit just the same.
I moved that sub around the whole room and found the rear corner, and the front corner best, for simplicity I left it in the front corner firing into the corner itself sounded better then front firing. Ideally you want the sub where it has the best hit but you cannot exactly pin point where it is located.

Speakers always lose a little bass once you take them off the floor but for surrounds what more can you do?

    depends on the model...

sometimes manufactures put subs in the tower speakers firing sideways because they cant fit the sub driver in the front, the speaker would be too wide...

Bass frequencies have a longer wavelength, its are able to skirt around object, if its facing sideways and its away from the wall it will prob reach you...

it all start getting complicated with the specific room design and where the dead spots are.. As a general rule of thumb there are "general" spots you will get better performance...

Also when you turn the sub around and place it in the corner, you are basically doing what i suggested deeper doesn't do with the center and the sides... its now using the space to enhance the bass, but that's not what you want, its boomy at certain frequency's and not in other, not the best for what was intended to be re produced... def not " reference" (hate that word), the closest to what the guys making the sound heard, when they made it..

Your better off just getting an additional sub other than putting it in the corner...

Also If you need to put it in the corner to get decent bass, then the sub is not good in general or not enough for the room...

I tell most people to just get velodyne subs, they are good subs.. not the most expensive, but not the cheapest.. the digital drive/digital drive plus ones are good...

    http://velodyne.com/shop/shop-all-products.html

But if you don't want to spend much i swear get one/two of these and you will be fine..

    http://velodyne.com/shop/shop-all-pr...dls-5000r.html

The larger the surface area thats moving air, the better bass (in most cases, not all)... you need a 15" or higher x 2-4 to get very clean distortion free sound at all volumes down to 25/30 hz...

One 8 inch aint going to do it... not going to reproduce the frequency's they intended with these movies at high spl's

And the rears... Depends on what you are listing to, whether a movie or music, but for movies you should cut all frequencies to the rears at 80/100 hz and let the sub work anything below.. most of the time they don't put low frequencies in the rear channels anyway...

If its music, you should be listening to music as 2 channel, if you set the room up properly and have good speakers, you wont be able to tell there are only 2 speakers in the room because the imaging is correct...not a fan of 5 channel for reproducing music, unless it was MADE for 5/7 channel, Not 2 channel that was split in 5 or 7 channels...

Sunfire is "alright", dealers like them because there's good margin on them.. and they make compact woofers... (for the wives)..

But for subs nothing really comes close to velodyne in term of bass clarity... (Without getting into commercial applications.. or custom larger systems)..

try that velodyne sub, if you dont like it return it.. And you could prob get two of those for the price of one sunfire.. (prob wont need it tho)

    dont do that Bromingo..

who knows how beat they are, regular speakers, most of the time, not a prob...

subs... not generally a good idea..

a lot of the time the amps go on those for some reason, so by the time you replace the amp and new driver, might as well got a new one....

I was at bestbuy today, I saw the new Sony 3D camera, was very impressed with it. I looked through the 4 inch viewfinder and everything in the room was in 3D, and I had no 3d glasses on, was really cool. I have no idea how that's done, but it's really cool. It was $1499.00, by next summer it will be 1/2 the price, when it reaches $500 I'm going to get it. It will be cool to tape my vacations in 3D, will be more enjoyably to watch with family and friends.

SlickBri481, you should consider this, so you can watch on your new TV, wait till at least spring though when the prices come down. Will look sick on that TV!

these are the movies shot on red one cameras which are 4k-5k and they have a 10k coming out, (they have been working on it for a while).

Red has been around for like 5 years, they make 4k cameras for 17k (body only)...

compared to the other panavision camera which you have to rent for like 20k plus a week each...

A lot of film makers have been shooting with red because its better smaller cheaper, so why not..... So most films are 4k already, they just need to be re release on 4k when they decide how they want to make it accessible to people...

This is a 5k video camera... the size of your Dslr

This is the red one... its been available for like 4-5 years, it shoots 4k and its only 17k for the body... i have no idea why everyone wasnt using it.... there were a lot of early adaptors... so movies have been 4k for a LONG time..

the sony digital cinema one is around 400k depending on model...

But if your a dealer, you can prob get something in the same 4k digital cinema family that would work in a home steup for less than 200k ( for a top of the line system) Minus any of the cooling and components it would need..

the sony home 4k i think is around 20k or less, maybe 17k

the jvc 4k is around 100k pluss

i have no idea... they can prob do it with fiber.... Maybe...

i dont know much about the capacity of fiber or how much space they have left...

But i will tell you one thing, its not going to be with netflix..ha..... to stream all that from the internet would be very serious bandwidth, i dont think they can do it with the current infrastructure... could they make it downloadable, prob... but most likely they will have external storage devices that will hold the movie's till the infrastructure is in place.

uncompressed HDSDI (the source format for HD) is 1.5Gbps.
    uncompressed 4k is 3.82 Gbps (477MB/s)

by the time it reaches the consumer HD is compressed with MPEG down to 19Mbps or less. So you figure at roughly 2.6x 1080s bitrate that would be about 50Mbps for compressed 4k. On a cable system one 6Mhz 'channel' can carry 38.47Mbps using QAM256 modulation.
