    Question Auction Cars?

I want to get rid of the car I own now. I'm in no position to lease/buy new from a dealership, so I was thinking about selling my car and going to the auto auctions to see if I can bid on something newer than what I have right now.

Auction cars? Good idea? Bad idea? What should I be looking out for? Advice, Etc. Help a girl out.

i wouldn't do it, most of them are there because other dealers dont want them for some reason or another

better to ask someone you know if they know of something

What about cars that were impounded for whatever reasons (DWI, unpaid tickets, etc), owners didn't pay to get them out and are now being auctioned?

I used to drive cars back from Manhiem for a dealer in jersey. I would never knowingly buy an auction car.
IF the car made it back to jersey they would bandaid it together just enough to get it past the 30 day garuntee
Bananas and saw dust in the transmission. Crazy glue on gaskets. Steam clean interiora that were inhabited by raccoons.
    Unreal

Finance a nice cert preowned accord

Here is what happens with those cars:

you go into a dealership and trade your car in, if its not something they can certify or want to sell they either send it to a wholesale auction or they have someone who buys their cars from them ( another wholesale dealer )

this wholesale dealer usually does not have a retail license so he brings them car auctions, from there smaller lots or even other dealers may buy cars, along with a few who "know someone" who has a dealer license and buys a car for them ( technically against the rules )

so yes you can get a good car, but realize its a car another dealer did not want for whatever reason. Wholesale used car guys are the cheapest mother fuckers you will ever meet, they will remove check engine and other warning lights ( even easier now you just have to re-set the computer ), clean ignition wires so they look new, not replace air bags, if a car needs bodywork they are usually using the absolute cheapest shop they can find who probably would not warranty the work but they don't care anyhow its just to make the auction.
I do believe they have regulations against frame damaged cars , but anything else is fair game.

Impound auctions are even trickier- you cannot start or test these vehicles, they are truly AS-IS. They may not even run- this is a chance you take.

and by the way- a wholesale dealer does not have to warranty the car at all, this doesnt mean he will sell a total piece of crap but he doesnt have to offer any warranty at all.
I did work for a few wholesale dealers, only one would actually care about quality and he put alot of work into his cars, even back then he was making average of about $5000 profit a week, had no lot or employees just himself and a few sub contractors. No customers threatening to call DMV on him ( the absolute worst thing a dealer wants is you calling DMV on them )

Unless you know someone who is car savvy and trustworthy, don't go near an auction.

Yes, I do. Where it's a good car, I'm tired of dealing with all these freak occurrences happening to it (hit 6 months after I bought it, caught parked in a street that flooded, tree fell on it, gas attendant forgot to put the oil cap back on when checking my oil unbeknown to me causing all the oil to erupt and my engine to seize, vandalized). But despite all of that, the body is in excellent condition, interior is also, I keep it routinely maintained and never had any problems with it.

Yeah but if you get another car that your really not sure of and its used you may run into other problems and your gonna be banging your head against the wall.

auction cars are great if you have disposable income. Alot of auction cars that are fairly new are high mileage trade ins or leases. Most dealerships don't want too many cars on the lot that they can't CPO. I've gotten a few sludgebuckets but also some really nice cars for cheap. I'm usually in and out of cars quick though so I never think long term.

auction example. I purchased 2 Porsche Cayenne turbos at different times. Both around 25k. One of them I sold for 34k about 4 months after I got it. The other one I wound up putting in a $7000 tranny and had a slew of electrical issues. It was in the shop more than in my driveway.

my sister's first car (mid 90s) was an auctioned t-bird. it was confiscated from law enforcement. it reeked of weed and the repairs never held out. clearly is was abused.

    this is about SELLING right??

always look into trade in value. if you want to just sell, u have some options.

-find a friend or shop/junkyard who can take it apart and sell viable pieces. people are always looking for old working parts.

-stick a FOR SALE sign on your window with a "negotiation" option. price high of course.

    - donate and get the value deducted from taxes you may owe

    - get a diagnostic and tuneup and let it sit on a carshop space or dealer lot. this will require that you honor brokerage fees

-don't be so willing to provide diaganostic bc many serious buyers will do it themselves

    - have as many repair job receipts as possible

ps- i hope you get shit for it lololol
Remember, you are unique. Just like everyone else.
    -read it somewhere

i know the pieces fit, 'cause i watched them tumble down -tool
